WESTMONT, Ill. – Four Allegheny College football players were named to the Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-North Region team announced on Monday, January 9. Senior safety Brad Stotsky (Evans City/Seneca Valley) was named to the second team, while senior offensive lineman Steve Nemeth (Kendall, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit), junior running back Mario Tarquinio (Charleroi) and sophomore punter Jason Black (Warren, Ohio/Champion) all were named Honorable Mention.

Stotsky, pictured with one of his two interceptions against Wooster, led the team in tackles in 2005 with 58 tackles, 30 solo, to go with a team-high five interceptions and two forced fumbles. He also broke up three passes and had 1.5 tackles for loss.

Nemeth was a key member of the offensive line that out-scored its opponents 247-218 and out-gained its opponents by over 22 yards a game, despite the 3-7 overall record.

Tarquinio, who missed the second and third game of the season due to injury, still managed to rush for a team-high 843 yards on 195 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per rush and 105.4 yards per game. He grounded out nine touchdowns while catching seven passes for 79 yards and a pair of scores through the air.

Black averaged 40.2 yards per punt, just off of the school record of 40.3 set in 1997. He punted 42 times for 1,687 yards, while stopping 10 inside of the opponent’s 20 yardline.

The Gators ended the 2005 season with a 3-7 record, despite winning the last two games of the year, and out-scoring and out-gaining their opponents. Six of the seven losses were by seven points or less, two of the losses came on last second field goals, and three other times the Gators were stopped inside of the opponent’s five yardline as the game ended.
