October Athletes of the Month

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has named its Athletes of the Month for October. Three male and three female athletes were nominated, one each from Allegheny’s fall sports teams; men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball. The recipient’s of this month’s recognition were senior Kyle Geiser (Orrville, Ohio) (right), of the football team, and Beth Van Parys (Erie/ Villa Maria Academy), of women’s soccer.

Geiser, a wide receiver and kick returner for the Blue and Gold, started all five Allegheny games in the month. He was on the receiving end of 25 passes, going for 261 yards and two scores on offense. Geiser also picked up a touchdown on special teams, as he raced a kick back 94 yards to open the second half against Kenyon. The fourth longest return in school history, his effort helped him to a 30.9 yard return average (8-for-247) in October.

Van Parys (left) served as the starting goalkeeper for the women’s soccer team, and helped the team to a 4-3-1 mark on the month, with all of the games coming against conference opponents. She had three shutouts in October, and two to close the season, as the Gators narrowly missed the NCAC playoffs. In her final eight games Van Parys made 29 stops and allowed six goals, earning a goals against average of .74.

Also nominated were Scarlett Graham (Farmington/ Uniontown) for women’s cross country, Chris Carrier (Lyndhurst, Ohio/ Charles F. Brush) for men’s cross country, Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./ Blair Academy) for men’s soccer, and Adriana Pennekamp (Houston, Texas/ Waltrip) from the volleyball team.

The SAAC is made up of one or two representatives from each competing sport at Allegheny. Athletes from the in-season teams are responsible for nominating, while all SAAC representatives get to vote.
