All-NCAC Men’s Soccer Teams Announced
November 14, 2005
CLEVELAND – The all-conference teams for the North Coast Athletic Conference have been announced, with six Allegheny College men’s soccer players on the list. First team honorees were junior forward Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./ Blair Academy) (right) and senior goalkeeper Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./ Portsmouth) (below). Represented on the second team were senior midfielder David Roberts (Lancaster/ Hempfield), sophomore midfielder Eric Sloan (Pittsburgh/ Mt. Lebanon), and senior defender David Recker (Pittsburgh/ Baldwin). Freshman midfielder Nathaniel Yates (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) and sophomore defender Jeremy Garbutt (St. Louis, Mo./ John Burroughs School) were named to the honorable mention squad, and round out the all All-NCAC Gators.
This is Carr’s first appearance as an All-NCAC athlete, after having a breakout season in 2005. Carr had team highs in goals (11) and points (24), and also led the team in game-winning goals with five. This is Manougian’s second All-NCAC recognition, as he was named to the second team in 2003. In his final campaign, Manougian made 85 saves and had five shutouts while allowing 24 goals.
Second team midfielders Roberts and Sloan had two and three assists, respectively, while Sloan also picked up a goal. Sloan makes his second appearance on the second team all-conference list, as he was named the NCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2004. Recker was named honorable mention as a defender a year ago, and solid play in the back got him the honor again in his senior season.
Yates earned honorable mention honors as a freshman after leading the Blue and Gold in assists with four, and finishing second on the team in goals with three. Garbutt is the final All-NCAC player from Allegheny, recognized for his role as a defender on a team that allowed one goal or fewer in 13 of 20 contests.
The team made it to the finals of the NCAC Tournament for the second consecutive season, finishing the year with and 8-8-4 record overall and a 5-3-1 mark in the league.
