Gators Erupt For Eight Goals in NCAC Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. – In the last home game for seniors Beth Van Parys (Erie/Villa Maria Academy), Stacy Miller (Wexford/North Allegheny), Jen Bilec (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) and Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.), the Allegheny Gators (9-5-2, 3-3-1 NCAC) erupted for a season-high eight goals in an NCAC victory over the Terriers of Hiram College (2-14-1, 1-7 NCAC) on a wet, cold afternoon.

The Gators wasted no time in reaching the back of the net, as Rogerson scored the first of her two goals just 3:01 into the game. Eight minutes later Meghan Borden (Harrison City/Penn-Trafford) beat the opposing keeper taking the lead to 2-0. Just over two minutes later the Gators struck again, this time when Katie Murphy (Venetia/Peters Township) scored off of an assist by Ashley Hughes (Wexford/North Allegheny) taking the lead to 3-0, just 13:18 into the contest. The team scored its final goal of the half when Rogerson scored her 11th goal of the season 35:49 into the half, giving the hosts a 4-0 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, Jillian Bolton (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) scored the first two goals of her career, just 2:01 apart, the second on an assist by Borden, giving the Gators a 6-0 lead. The team tacked on a pair of insurance goals, the first one 22 seconds later, when Sara Beth Berner (Whitehall) scored off of a Borden assist before Alex Duhan (Independence, Ohio) scored off of a Marcy McNamara (Naples, N.Y.) assist, giving the game its 8-0 final score.

Senior Van Parys was in the goal for the Gators, playing the first 82:42 of the game before being replaced by Melissa Banks (Gilboa, N.Y./ Gilboa Conesville Central), as the Terriers were unable to muster a shot in the contest, resulting in no save opportunities for either goalkeeper.

The Gators end their regular season on Saturday, October 29 as the team travels to Gambier, Ohio to take the pitch against the Ladies of Kenyon College with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m.
