Men’s Soccer Defeats Wittenberg 1-0
Oct 15, 2005 Boxscore
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Allegheny College men’s soccer team moved to 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) today with a 1-0 shutout win over the Wittenberg Tigers (6-5-3, 3-2 NCAC). Nathaniel Yates (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) had the game-winner for the Gators, as he collected his third goal of the 2005 season.
Wittenberg had the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3, but the Gators out-shot the host Tigers by a margin of 9-5, and made their shots count, as eight were on goal. The Blue and Gold’s persistence paid off in the second half, when Yates’ strike found the back of the net 71:29 into the contest, as the ball deflected off a defender and past the Wittenberg keeper.
Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./ Portsmouth) collected his third shutout of the season, and second in a row, making three stops in the victory.
The team, now 6-4-3 overall, is in action again this Monday, October 17, when it will face the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg in a 3:00 p.m. kickoff. After the Greensburg game the Blue and Gold will finish off the regular season with a string of four conference games.
