Allegheny Gators Blank Ohio Wesleyan, 3-0

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women’s soccer team defeated Ohio Wesleyan 3-0 in an NCAC conference match. With this victory the Gator’s record improved to 8-3-1 overall, and 2-1 in the conference.
Allegheny jumped out to a 1-0 lead early. Katie Murphy (Venetia/Peters Township) knocked in the first goal right over the goalie’s hands only 5:53 into the contest. The assist on this goal came from Christy McShea (Murrysville/Franklin Regional).
The Gator’s then increased their lead to 2-0, 28 minutes later when Kelsey Boivin (Alberquerque, N.M.) put the ball past the OWU goalie into the high left corner of the net, 33:44 into the half. This time it was Murphy with the assist.
Next to score for Allegheny was Rebecca Rotoloni (McMurray/Peters Township). Rotoloni placed the ball in the lower left corner of the goal with 2:08 left in the half. Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
Offensive action slowed in the second half, and it was the defense that picked up. Both teams were scoreless in this half, combining for nine saves on goal.
Beth Van Parys (Erie/Villa Maria Academy), senior goalkeeper for Allegheny, put up her seventh shutout of the year. Rogerson put up her seventeenth point of the season, and is followed closely by Murphy whose three points upped her season total to fourteen.
The Gator women have five games left this season, all of them against conference opponents. The team plays again next on October 15, as it will compete in the first game of women’s/men’s double-header starting at 5:00 p.m. at Wittenberg.
