Gators Win Conference Opener Over Earlham

Oct 1, 2005

Boxscore

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women’s soccer team moved to 7-2-1 and 1-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) today with a win over Earlham. Goals by Ashley Hughes (Wexford/North Allegheny) and Katie Murphy (Venetia/Peters Township) moved Allegheny’s unbeaten streak to five games.

The Gators got on the board just eleven minutes into the contest, as Hughes knocked the ball into the lower left corner of the goal on a pass from Ashley Lloyd (Pittsburgh/Upper St. Clair) for the 1-0 lead. That score turned out to be the game-winner, as Earlham mustered only five shots in the game, none of which were on goal.

Murphy added an insurance goal six minutes into the second half when she connected on an assist from Stacy Miller (Wexford/North Allegheny).

Hughes’ goal was her third on the season while Murphy got her fourth. Both Lloyd and Miller picked up their second assist of 2005.

Beth Van Parys (Erie/Villa Maria Academy) picked up her sixth shut out in just ten games.

The team is home again this Wednesday, October 5, to face Wooster in conference action at 4:30 p.m.
