Oct 1, 2005

Boxscore

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men’s soccer team defeated Earlham (Ind.) University in a game that saw two overtime periods. It was Allegheny’s fourth double overtime game of the season.

The Gators wasted no time getting on the board as junior Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./ Blair Academy) scored 57 seconds into the game off a corner kick from sophomore Jeremy Garbutt (St. Louis, Mo./ John Burroughs School). Carr now has five goals on the season, and leads the team with 10 points. It was Garbutt’s first assist of the year.

The Gators would maintain the lead through the first period, but the Quakers evened the score 19 minutes into the second half as Victor Anciano scored on a penalty kick.

Neither team would score again in regulation or the first overtime period. However, the Gators kept the fight alive and, with five minutes left in the second overtime period, got the ball into the opponent box and won on an own goal as the Quakers tried to clear the ball.

Allegheny’s defense was strong all game as senior keeper Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./ Portsmouth) saw only one shot on goal.

The Gators improve to 4-3-3 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.

The team heads to Oberlin Tuesday, October 4, to face the Yeomen in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
