PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny College women’s soccer team faced undefeated Carnegie Mellon tonight, battling the team on its home turf to a 0-0 double overtime tie. Senior goalkeeper Beth Van Parys (Erie/Villa Maria Academy) had 12 stops for the Blue and Gold, collecting her fifth shutout of the season.

In Carnegie Mellon’s first seven games the team out-shot opponents 179-29 and scored 25 goals while having allowed only one. In CMU’s eighth game Van Parys and the Allegheny defense shut down the Carnegie Mellon scoring attack, handing the team its second 0-0 double overtime tie and moving it to 6-0-2.

Allegheny has also put up impressive numbers this season, scoring 19 goals while having allowed just five in a 6-2 opening stretch. Tonight, with the offense struggling, the defense came up big against the Tartans, giving up 23 shots, but not enabling Carnegie Mellon to find the back of the net.

Now the Blue and Gold are 6-2-1 on the season, and are set for conference play, as the team returns home this Saturday, October 1, for its NCAC opener versus Earlham. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., with the men’s game against Earlham to follow.
