Boxscore

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women’s soccer team made things look easy at Robertson Field today, beating the Grove City Wolverines 3-0 in a contest in which the team took 37 shots to its opponents’ four. The win is the third straight for the Gators, and puts Allegheny at 6-2 on the season.

Things got off to a great start for the home team, as just four minutes into the contest Stacy Miller found Ashley Rogerson on a corner kick, giving the Blue and Gold a 1-0 advantage.

That was it for first half scoring, as the Gators took 21 shots in the forty-five minute session, but only found the net once.

The second half played out much like the first, but this time Allegheny was able to get the ball between the post on two occasions. Freshman midfielder Christy McShea (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) got her third collegiate goal as she sent a pass home from Meghan Borden (Harrison City/Penn-Trafford) in minute sixty-seven. It was Borden who would find the net next, as she scored off an assist from Rebecca Rotoloni (McMurray/Peters Township) in the seventy-third minute.

Overall, the Gators took 12 shots on goal, while Allegheny goalkeeper Beth Van Parys (Erie/ Villa Maria Academy) did not need to make a save to get her fourth shutout of 2005. The Gator defense continues its strong play, having now allowed just five goals in eight games.

The women will look for another win Tuesday, September 27, when the team travels to Carnegie Mellon for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Last season the teams tied in a lightning-shortened contest, 2-2.
