MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny College Gators improved to 3-3-2 on the year with their second straight win, beating the Big Red of Denison in the conference opener for both teams. Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./ Blair Academy) scored both Gator goals.
Allegheny got off to a poor start, as just 40 seconds into the game the team was whistled for a foul that gave the Big Red a direct kick. The ball was sent in, passed, and then bicycle-kicked home by Denison’s Bill Dodson. Allegheny could not break Denison’s momentum until the sixteenth minute, when Nathaniel Yates (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) crossed a ball that was deflected by the Denison keeper and then struck home by Carr. From that point on Allegheny took a slight advantage on possession, and started to see more chances.
The game-winning goal came in the seventy-ninth minute, as Alan Carr was able to maneuver past his defender and find the top of the net. Shots were even at 13 for the game, but Carr made the difference, as each of his two shots on goal found their way past the Denison goalkeeper.
Carr now has four goals on the season while Yates has two assists. The duo will look to the lead the team’s offense against John Carroll on the road, this Wednesday, September 28, at 4:00 p.m. The Gators fell to the Blue Streaks last season in a game where the Gators out-shot their opponent 18-8 but fell by a score of 2-1.
