ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny Gator women’s soccer team won their second straight game with a 3-1 victory over Penn St. Behrend on Thursday evening.
Behrend reached the scoreboard first in the game, with a goal just 17 minutes into the contest before the Gator defense stiffened, shutting the Lions down for the remainder of the game.
The Behrend lead did not last long, as Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.) knotted the game at one just three minutes later off of an assist from Robin Bunch (Pittsburgh/ Mt. Lebanon).
The Gators forced the Lions into an own goal three minutes after that before scoring the third and final goal of the game just two and a half minutes later when Christy McShea (Murrysville/ Franklin Regional) took a Rebecca Rotolini (McMurray/ Peters Township) pass from a corner kick, beating the opposing keeper, giving the visitors a 3-1 lead with nearly 20 minutes to play in the first half.
Gator goalkeeper Beth Van Parys (Erie/ Villa Maria Academy) shut the Lions down in the second half, stopping three shots in the period, giving her a total of eight for the game.
With the win, the Gators improve to 5-2 on the year while Penn St. Behrend falls to 4-2-1 in 2005.
The next game for the Blue and Gold is on Saturday, September 24 when the team plays in the second game of a men’s/women’s double header against Grove City College starting at 2:00, while the men face off against NCAC foe Denison University at noon.
