Allegheny Women’s Golf Continues Terrific Start

ERIE, Pa. – Allegheny’s newest varsity sport, women’s golf, has continued its great start. After finishing in the top spot at Baldwin-Wallace one week ago, the women took second today at the Gannon Invitational. Coach Jeff Groff’s team shot a score of 345 for the second time this year, this time doing it against a field of Division II teams. Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./ Glenbrook South) led the way, shooting 83 (43-40), and tying for fifth.
Falling in behind Bruckner were Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./ St. Charles East) with 86 (43-43), Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./ Frontier Central) with a score of 87 (43-44), Melanie Ice (Beaver Falls, Pa./ Riverside) with an 89 (50-39), and Erin Winings (Rockford, Ohio/ Parkway), who shot 92 (51-41). The foursome took twelfth, fourteenth, seventeenth, and twenty-eighth, respectively, in the field of forty-nine golfers.
Ashland University took the overall team title with a total of 329 strokes, while California (Pa.) came in behind the Gators with a total of 347. The teams shot their rounds at the Lake Shore Country Club, a par-72 layout that played to 5,843 yards.
Next up for the women is another journey to Erie, Pa., as they head to the Penn State Behrend Invitational on September 22.
