Gator Women’s Soccer Wins Again

Frostburg, Md. – The women’s soccer team of Allegheny College picked up its fourth win of the season today against Frostburg State. The team, which is now 4-2, beat the Bobcats with a strike that came off the foot of freshman Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./ Peters Township). The goal was the only one of the match, as the Blue and Gold won 1-0.

The Gator defense set the tone, playing strong all day, and holding the Bobcats to just five shots. Offensively, Allegheny took 12 shots, forcing the Frostburg keeper to make five saves.

Murphy got her second game-winner of the season, beating the Bobcat defense 29 minutes into the contest. The goal came off of a corner kick that was sent in by junior Emily Spencer (Evergreen, Colo./ Evergreen). Murphy now has three goals and three assists this season while Spencer has two assists.

The team, which is four wins ahead its pace through six games last year (2-2-2), is off until Thursday, September 22, when it heads to Penn State Behrend for a 4:30 p.m. game.
