Boxscore

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny College women’s soccer team fell to Westminster tonight by a score of 1-0. While the Gators outshot the Titans 25-12, they could not find a way to score, getting shutout for the first time this season. Both teams moved to 3-2 overall after the game.

Allegheny entered the game having outscored its opponents by a 12-3 margin, with senior goalkeeper Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) having recorded two shutouts in the first four games. The Gators were on the other side of things tonight, however, even after taking 25 shots and forcing the Titans’ rookie goalkeeper to make 14 stops.

Westminster put one on the board near the end of the first half as Brittany McKee headed a corner kick past Van Parys. After the break Allegheny picked up the pace, taking eight shots on goal, but the Titan keeper was up to the challenge, stopping every one. Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./ North Allegheny) and Kelsey Boivin (Alberquerque, N.M.) led the offensive attack for Allegheny, as each player took three shots on goal. Season points leader Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.), who had scored five goals on just 10 shots coming into the game, took two unsuccessful shot attempts on the night.

Next on the schedule for Allegheny is a journey to Frostburg State. The game comes this Saturday, September 17, at 3:00 p.m.
