Gators Fall in Double OT to Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Allegheny Gators and Mount Union Purple Raiders squared off against each other tonight, with Mount Union getting the double overtime win 2-1. The loss takes the Gators to 2-1, as the Purple Raiders climb to 1-2.

The first half of the game was quiet, as Allegheny took four shots to Mount Union’s two. Mount Union got on the board just three minutes in to the second half of action, as sophomore forward Stephanie Purdy knocked in a pass from Kelly Croysdale. Allegheny rallied to tie the match in the eighty-second minute, as senior Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) found the back of the net for the third time in as many games.

The second half ended 1-1, and the teams headed to overtime. In the first 10 minutes of extra time neither team took a shot, but just three minutes into the second OT Mount Union sophomore Nicole Dougherty scored on a corner kick from Purdy. The sudden death score was the first goal of Dougherty’s career.

Allegheny is next in action when it will face Case Western in its 2005 home opener. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10.
