Gators Beat Clock and Defeat Scranton
Sep 4, 2005 Boxscore
ONEONTA, N.Y. – After defeating host Hartwick College in day one of its tournament 6-1, the Allegheny Gator women’s soccer team was looking for win number two of the year, this time against the University of Scranton. The Gators took five shots in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net. It would take another forty-five minutes of action before Allegheny would get the 1-0 win.
While the first half was fairly calm, the second half was all Gators. Allegheny took eleven shots to Scranton’s two, but couldn’t get the ball by the Scranton keeper. It appeared as if the game would head to overtime when Allegheny earned a corner kick as time was winding down. Sophomore Kelsey Boivin (Alberquerque, N.M.) sent the ball across the middle and freshman Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./ Peters Township) headed it in with just four seconds left in the match.
The win takes the Gators to 2-0 on the year. Murphy now has two goals and three assists on the season, and leads Allegheny point-scorers. The Gators are next in action when they face Mount Union on the road on Thursday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m. The Gator home opener comes on September 10, when the team hosts Case Western at 1:00 p.m.
