Gator Men’s Soccer Loses to RIT in Overtime
Sep 4, 2005 Boxscore
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Allegheny College men’s soccer team continued play today in the Nazareth College Tournament. After tying the hosts on day one 1-1 in double overtime, the Gators again found themselves playing past 90 minutes.
Game two of Allegheny’s season came against the Rochester Institute of Technology. The game was scoreless through 60 minutes of action, when RIT got one of its seven shots on goal past Allegheny goalkeeper Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./ Portsmouth). Allegheny commanded the second half, however, outshooting RIT 11-5, and was able to answer at the 70-minute mark with a goal of its own. David Recker (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Baldwin) sent a corner kick into the box that was headed in by sophomore Robert DelGreco (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Seton-LaSalle).
The final 20 minutes of regulation remained scoreless, and the teams headed to OT in a 1-1 tie. RIT wasted no time in getting the sudden death goal, however, as the team scored under a minute into the extra period.
The loss takes the Gators to 0-1-1 on the year. DelGreco, who is recovering from an injury, gained his second goal of the young season. He and the Gators will look to get their first win of the year at home, as they host Case Western on Friday, September 9, at 5:00 p.m.
