Tough Loss at NCAC’s Brings Gators Home

Oberlin, Ohio – The Allegheny College lacrosse team did all they could in the last minutes of the NCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament semifinal, but fell 9-8 to Denison University in the end.
The Big Red, which led 5-4 at the half, exploded to a 9-5 lead 13 minutes into the final frame. Allegheny responded with three unanswered goals from junior Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/ Bonny Eagle), freshman Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./ North Allegheny), and junior Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.). The Gators maintained possession most of the final minute but could not put a shot on goal.
"Our M.O. this season has been to come from behind," Allegheny head coach Paul Bonus said. "We played with heart, desire, and the confidence that we belong on the field with anyone. Our run at the end of today's game describes our season pretty well."
Deering, Rogerson, and Hughes each scored twice for the Gators. Rogerson also led the squad with seven ground balls, while freshman Lesley Strange (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) made 11 saves in goal.
Courtney Abrams scored three goals, including the game-winner with 18:17 to play to lead Denison. Kristin Frost also scored twice for the Big Red, while Molly Lamdin grabbed five ground balls. Carolyn Hicks turned aside 13 shots between the pipes.
Denison (9-3 overall) moves on to tomorrow's championship games against either Wooster or Ohio Wesleyan. Allegheny ends its season at 8-6 overall.
Rogerson and Stange represented the Gators on the All-Tournament Team following the Championship game.
