Allegheny’s Deering Named NCAC Lacrosse Player of the Week
May 3, 2005 MEADVILLE, Pa. – The North Coast Athletic Conference has named Allegheny College junior Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/ Bonny Eagle) as its Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for May 2.
Deering became the all-time leading goal scorer in Gator history last week when she scored three times in a 14-2 rout of Oberlin (Ohio) College April 27. The tallies allowed her to surpass Jill Michalski (1994-95) and Eleni Kacoyianni (1996-99), who each had 91 in their careers, for the record. Following her two-goal performance in a loss to Ohio Wesleyan University April 30, Deering now has 95 for her career.
On the week, Deering also totaled two assists and seven points as AC went 1-1 and secured a spot in the NCAC Tournament, which will be May 6-7 at Oberlin (Ohio) College. It’s just the second time the Gators have made the conference tourney and AC will hope to surpass last year’s trip, when they reached the title game for the first time ever.
For the season, Deering is third on the team with 20 goals and fourth with five assists and 25 points. She is also third on the squad with 19 ground balls and leads the team with 11 caused turnovers.
A journalism/communication arts major, Deering is the daughter of David and Diane Deering of Hollis, Maine.
