Box Score

Meadville, Pa. - The Allegheny Gators lacrosse team improved to 5-2 after defeating the St. Vincent College Lady Bearcats 14-8 Wednesday afternoon.

Leading the Gators offensive attack were junior Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/ Bonny Eagle) and freshman Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./ North Allegheny), who each had four goals. Freshman goalkeeper Lesley Stange (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) finished with seven saves.

Deering got the Gators off to a quick 1-0 lead after her goal 3:16 into the game. Sophomore Michelle Dudevoir (Westpoint, N.Y./ Oneill) followed Deering with a goal off an assist from junior Anna Gordon (Portland, Maine/ Deering) four minutes later. St. Vincent answered back with two goals from Shoko Asakura. Junior Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) put the Gators back up 3-2, but St. Vincent’s Jennifer Perestock answered back to tie the game.

Rogerson scored her second goal to put the Gators up 4-3, but once again, St. Vincent tied the game up at four before the Gators countered with a three-goal flurry before halftime. Two scores by Hughes (above) and one by Deering put the Gators up 7-4 at the half.

St. Vincent came out strong in the second half and closed the lead to one. Hughes came to the rescue, scoring on back-to-back goals in 11 seconds. Rogerson followed Hughes’ performance with her third goal of the game, putting the Gators ahead 11-6. It was all the Gators needed to secure their fifth win of the season.

The Gators return to Robertson Field on Saturday April 16 to face Medaille (N.Y.) College.
