Gators Fall in Home Opener

Meadville, Pa. - The Allegheny Lacrosse team suffered its second loss of the season after falling to Buffalo State 13-5. The game proved to be a tale of two halves.

Allegheny kept it close during the first 30 minutes of action and junior Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) put the Gators up 1-0 three minutes into the game. Buffalo State quickly answered with back-to-back goals by freshman Shantel Ackley. The Gators were able to creep within one before half time when junior Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored with 5:12 to play, making the score 3-2.

Buffalo State came out strong in the second-half and scored two goals within the first two minutes to go ahead 5-2. Freshman Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./ North Allegheny) scored on an assist from senior Ashley Lemmon (Allison Park, Pa./Winchester-Thurston), but once again the Bengals roared back. Freshman Erin Silky (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored two of the next three goals Bengal goals to put Buffalo State up 8-3.

Hughes led the Gators with two goals, while Deering, Rogerson, and sophomore Michelle Dudevoir (Westpoint, N.Y./Oneill) each added a goal for the Gators. Silky and Ackley each had three goals to lead the Bengals.

The Gators look to bounce back as they host Wittenberg for their first NCAC contest of the season on Sunday, April 10th at 1:00 p.m.
