Shouey, Pool, and Rapp Highlight Finishes at Kent State

Kent, Ohio - The Allegheny men’s and women’s track teams participated in the Kent State Tune-Up Saturday afternoon and made a great showing in a field full of Division I schools.
Seniors Kevin Pool (New Windsor, Md./Westminster) and Leah Shouey (Franklin, Pa.) brought home first place finishes and two school records, while freshman Conrad Rapp (Midway, Mass./Worchester) placed third in the pole vault.
Pool finished the 3,000 meter run in 8:21.11, nearly a second ahead of the next finisher and 18 seconds faster than the Allegheny record set by assistant coach Dan Princic in 2003. Junior Dave Griffin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) was the other male runner to have a top finish. He ran the 300 meter hurdles in 42.12 for a fifth place finish.
This week’s fastest sprinter was sophomore Marcus Solomon (Rockwell, Texas/Dallas Christian) who ran the 55 meter dash in seven seconds flat and the 200 meter dash in 23.79.
Rapp cleared a height of 15 feet and three inches on his way to third place at the meet. His vault met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
Shouey ran the mile in under five minutes, as she crossed the line in 4:55.42 to take first place. Her quick finish was seven seconds faster than the previous school record set by Alyse Holden in 1992. Sophomore Scarlett Graham (Farmington, Pa./Uniontown) and senior Lindsey Shouey (Franklin, Pa.) finished six-seven in the mile run with times of 5:08.54 and 5:09.13. Graham erased nearly 12 seconds off her time from last week’s 5:20.36 mile run. Leah Shouey also placed eighth in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:19.19.
Graham and Lindsey Shouey also competed in the 3,000 meter run and finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Graham’s time of 10:30.12 just beat her teammate’s time of 10:31.78.
Two women runners bested their times from last week. In the 200 meter dash, freshman Sarah Sammel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) crossed the line in 28.16, beating her time of 28.90 last week. Freshman Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio) knocked three seconds off her 400 meter dash time with a 1:04.17 finish.
