Oberlin, Ohio. - Sophomore guard Katie Kestler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) had a career night as she tied a school record with seven treys to lead Allegheny (9-5, 2-4) in a 68-59 win over Oberlin (Ohio) College (3-9, 1-5) on the road Wednesday night.
The Gators scored first at the 17:33 mark and made four shots in a row, including three trifectas, to take an 11-0 lead. Allegheny continued their hot shooting for the half as they connected on 44.1% from the field, and never led by less than six points for the first 20 minutes, with the score being 39-24 at the break.
Kestler was the main shooter for the first half, as she hit four of five from behind the arc. Senior guard Raelynn Miles (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) balanced the attack with three buckets inside.
Oberlin started the second 20 minutes with a 10-0 run and cut the deficit to four with a three-pointer by Cristina Briboneria, with fifteen minutes left. Four points is as close as Oberlin would come, as Allegheny jumped their lead back to 15 by the nine minute mark.
Allegheny’s bench proved to be the difference, as they outscored Oberlin 38-0.
Kestler finished with a game and career-high 21 points. Junior guard Caitlin Murtagh (Bethel Park, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) continued her double-digit scoring with 15 for the game. Miles finished with 11 points, as all three finished with four rebounds. Sophomore Meghan Vasilisin (Munhall, Pa./Oakland Catholic) and senior forward Jackie Tubo (Altoona, Pa.) came off the bench to lead the team in rebounding with five boards apiece.
