Meadville, Pa. - A four-goal second half helped the Gators put away Oberlin in women’s soccer Tuesday. Allegheny won by a score of 5-0 and improved to 9-5-2 on the year and 4-3 in NCAC play while the Yeowoman dropped to 3-12-1 and 0-6-1.
Junior midfielder Robin Bunch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) recorded the game-winning goal in the 18th minute of play when she finished off a shot deflection by senior midfielder Leah Karpa (West Mifflin, Pa.).
The Gators put together four goals in the second half, including two just 14 seconds apart to increase their lead.
Junior midfielder Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.) started the second half scoring at the 67:16 mark, when she collected a defender clearance and placed a shot over the goalie’s head. The Gators struck again right after the Oberlin kick-off as senior forward Jill Gray (North East, Pa.) and freshman forward Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) used a give-and-go down the center. Hughes was the beneficiary, as she scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
In the 74th minute, freshman defender Kelsey Boivin (Albuquerque, N.M.) sent a corner kick to the center of the goal, which Karpa headed right to Gray’s foot for the redirection goal.
Capping off the scoring in the 87th minute was senior midfielder Ashley Kittridge (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township). Kittridge dribbled down the center of the field and fired a shot from 20 yards that was too much for Oberlin keeper, Leigh Wilson, to handle.
Allegheny held a 23-2 shot advantage and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Gator junior keeper Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) made two saves in the game as Wilson finished with three saves.
The Gators head on the road to Earlham on Saturday, October 30 at 11 a.m. for their final regular season game.
