October 23, 2004
Meadville, Pa. - An early goal by Denison’s women’s soccer team helped defeat Allegheny at home on Saturday, 2-0.
Allegheny freshman forward Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) got off an early shot, that was saved by Denison keeper Liz Gillette, before Denison scored in the 12th minute and controlled possession for the remainder of the first half.
Denison’s Anne Young collected a deflection off an Allegheny defender and volleyed a shot to the high far post for the 1-0 lead.
The Gators were recharged in the second half and threatened to tie the score on multiple possessions but couldn’t get the shots off.
Denison added to their lead at the 65:20 mark when Kia Anderson sent a perfectly placed shot from 30 yards out to the high far post.
Allegheny was out-shot 16-4 by the 17th-ranked Big Red.
Gator junior keeper Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa.) finished the game with four saves.
