Quick First Half Propels Gators

Hiram, Ohio (Oct. 20, 2004) — With four straight goals in the first twenty minutes of play, the Allegheny Gators defeated the Hiram Terriers 4-1 in Hiram, Ohio Wednesday.
Senior forward Marc Sciulli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) started the scoring at the 6:43 mark with a goal assisted by senior forward Josh Johnson (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional). Freshman defender Eric Sloan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) kept the momentum going with a goal just two minutes later that was assisted by senior midfielder Ben Montgomery (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), who headed a pass forward to Sloan.
Johnson then scored in the 14th minute when goalkeeper Tad Rupp (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) sent a punt forward, which Johnson won in the air and volleyed passed Hiram keeper Chris Pisto. Freshman defender Pat Bowman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) completed the Gator scoring in the 20th minute when junior Dave Recker (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) flicked a corner kick by Sciulli forward to Bowman, who headed in the goal.
Hiram’s Tony Anzalone cancelled the Gator shutout with a goal in the 31st minute against Rupp.
Junior keeper Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) entered the game at the start of the second half and made five saves.
The Gators return home on Saturday for a Homecoming game against Wabash at 1:30 p.m. at Robertson Field.
