Meadville, Pa. - A pair of Ashley’s helped the Allegheny women’s soccer team defeat visiting Kenyon (Ohio) College 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Robertson Field. Freshman forward Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored two goals while junior forward Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.) netted one goal and assisted on another.

At the 24:17 mark of the first half, Rogerson collected the rebound of her own shot and found Hughes who beat Kenyon’s keeper, Rosemary Davis, for the score. Allegheny would continue to pressure the Ladies, firing 12 shots in the first half.

Thirty-two minutes into the second half, junior midfielder Jen Bilec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) sent a service high to the far post directly to Rogerson’s head, who finished for the 2-0 lead.

Hughes struck again for her fourth goal of the season in the 81st minute when sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Mosher (Walkill, N.Y.) sent a through ball to Hughes, who dribbled in for the score.

Allegheny junior keeper Beth Van Parys and sophomore keeper Ashlea Vilello combined for the shutout. Van Parys finished the game with four saves.

Davis finished with eight saves for Kenyon as the Gators put 12 of 19 shots on goal.

With the win the Gators improve to 6-3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Kenyon drops to 6-5-1 and 0-2.

The Gators go on the road to face Hiram, Ohio Wesleyan, and Wooster before returning home to face Denison on October 23 at 11 a.m. at Robertson Field.
