Meadville, Pa. - The Allegheny women’s soccer team lost their first home game of the year at the hands of Wittenberg (Ohio) University 1-0 in overtime. The loss drops the Gators to 5-3-2 on the year and 0-1 in conference play while Wittenberg improves to 7-0-4 and 2-0 in the NCAC.

Allegheny controlled possession for most of the game but couldn’t take advantage of their opportunities. However, neither team held an advantage in shots and it took an extra period for a score to be made.

Wittenberg’s Liz Volz nailed a left-footed shot to the near high post from 20 yards out causing celebration for the Tigers five minutes into the first overtime period.

Allegheny’s junior keeper Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) made four saves on the day while Meghan O’Rourke recorded two saves for the shutout.

The Gators will take the week off before hosting Kenyon (Ohio) College on Saturday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
