Gambier, Ohio (Sept. 25, 2004) - Allegheny sophomore midfielder Chris Fedele (Williamsville, N.Y.) tied a school record with his first career hat trick and also contributed an assist in the Gators 4-1 win over host Kenyon (Ohio) College Saturday afternoon. Allegheny moves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0 in NCAC play while Kenyon falls to 1-8 and 0-1.
The Gators struck early when Fedele beat Kenyon’s Elliot Forhan in the second minute of action. Fedele then fed senior forward Josh Johnson (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) six minutes later for the 2-0 lead. The goal was Johnson’s fourth on the year.
Fedele scored two additional unassisted goals at the 64:57 and 72:41 marks.
Kenyon got on the board in the 85th minute when David Palchak scored an unassisted goal against Allegheny reserve goalkeeper Tad Rupp (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur).
Allegheny held the shot advantage 10-2 but Kenyon had four corner kicks to Allegheny’s two.
Junior goalkeeper Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) was not tested during his 75 minutes of play. Forhan finished with two saves for the Lords.
Fedele’s hat trick marks the first time an Allegheny player has scored three goals in a game since Johnson tallied three in a 5-0 Gator win over Marietta (Ohio) College, September 17, 2003. It is also the tenth time overall that a Gator has scored three goals in a single game.
The Gators return home to face John Carroll (Ohio) University on Wednesday, September 29 at 4 p.m. at Robertson Field.
