MEADVILLE, Pa. - Allegheny College held a 3-1 lead at halftime but could not hold off Pitt-Greensburg, who rallied for a 4-3 overtime victory in men's soccer at Robertson Field Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Gators record to 2-1-1, while the Bobcats improve to 2-3-1.

Allegheny broke out to a quick start, taking a 2-0 lead early in the game. Senior forward Josh Johnson (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) scored an unassisted goal at the 9:56 mark to put the Gators on the board. Johnson would tally his second of the game and third of the season in the 32nd minute as he headed in a cross from freshman midfielder Andrew Stutzman (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Upper St. Clair) to make it 2-0 Allegheny.

But after he scored the goal, Johnson was given his second yellow card of the game, equaling a red card and his ejection from the game. That evened the playing field for Pitt-Greensburg, who had been playing a man down since forward Scott Burick was given two yellows and a red in the first 22 minutes of the game.

The Bobcats took quick advantage, as they cut the Allegheny lead in half less than 40 seconds later. Midfielder David Tintera finished a cross from the left side of the box from Adam Zeleznick to make it 2-1. Allegheny appeared to grab the momentum back just before halftime when sophomore forward Mark Dobish (New Wilmington, Pa.) took a feed from sophomore forward Alan Carr (Blairstown, N.J./ Blair Academy) and scored in the 44th minute to send the Gators to the break with a 3-1 lead.

In the second half, the visitors cut into the lead with a score in the 57th minute. Midfielder Justin Innocent took a touch pass from Tintera and buried a shot to slice the Allegheny advantage to 3-2. Innocent would also get the equalizer at the 81:14 mark when he scored off a cross from Mike Mount to knot the score at 3-3, which is where the game stood at the end of regulation.

In the first extra session, UPG had all three shots of the period. They got the game-winner with 2:40 to play when Zeleznick came down the right side off a feed from Tintera and went to the left side post with a shot that eluded Gator keeper Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./ Portsmouth) to give the Bobcats the 4-3 triumph.

For the game, Manougian stopped five shots, while Pitt-Greensburg keeper Greg Faltenovich recorded six saves. Allegheny, off the strength of a 13-4 advantage in the first half, out shot the visitors 19-13 for the game and also claimed a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Gators return to action Saturday, Sept. 18, when they host Marietta (Ohio) College at 3 p.m.
