The women’s soccer team fell at the hands of William Smith College Sunday afternoon at the William Smith College Heron Cup 2-1 in overtime.

The Herons struck first in the 28th minute when Alexandra Rieben scored her second goal of the season off a free kick over Allegheny keeper Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).

Allegheny equalized in the second half at the 66:34 mark as junior midfielder Jen Bilec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) sent a cross to junior midfielder Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y.) who beat Heron keeper, Nikki Dudley, with a shot to the left corner. The goal was the second on the season for Rogerson as Bilec recorded her second assist.

Play was even in the overtime period but with six seconds remaining, William Smith’s Laura Burnett-Kurie scored the game-winner with a header off a cross from Katie Murley.

Van Parys finished with nine saves as Dudley recorded two.

The Gators return home to face Carnegie Mellon on Thursday, September 16 at 4 p.m. at Robertson Field.

A pair of Gators were named to the All-Tournament team in Bilec and freshman Kelsey Boivin (Albuquerque, N.M.).
