Women's Soccer Drops First Contest

Union (N.Y.) College proved to be too much for the Allegheny defense Saturday as they defeated the Gators 2-0 on the first day of the William Smith College Heron Cup in Geneva, N.Y.
With the loss Allegheny, ranked #24 in the nation, falls to 2-1 while #15 Union moves to 3-0.
The Dutchwomen scored in the sixth minute when Caitlin Cuozzo let a shot fly from the left wing that was just under the cross bar. Union's Molly Flanagan was given the assist. Seven minutes later, Cassandra Mariani scored with a shot from the top of the box over Allegheny goalkeeper Beth Van Parys's (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) head.
Union College out-shot Allegheny 13-3 for the game.
Van Parys finished with two saves as Union's Julie Gawronski also finished with two saves.
The women will face host #14 William Smith on Sunday at 11 a.m. before returning home and hosting Carnegie Mellon on Thursday, September 16 at 4 p.m.
