Gators Defense Stifles John Carroll in 2-0 Victory

An early goal by junior midfielder Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) would stand-up as Allegheny College defeated John Carroll (Ohio) University 2-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Gators out-shot the Blue Streaks 9-0 in the first half and scored in the 18th minute when Rogerson found the back of the net off a pass through the middle from sophomore forward Emily Spencer (Evergreen, Colo.).

Freshman midfielder Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored for the second time in as many games when she finished a cross to center by senior midfielder Leah Karpa (West Mifflin, Pa.) at the 67:27 mark.

Allegheny’s junior goalkeeper, Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), recorded her second shutout without making a save, as all five Blue Streak shots were not on goal.

John Carroll split the game between two goalkeepers, Alena Neton and Valerie Glassner. Neton started the game and recorded three saves while Glassner entered the game after halftime and finished with one save.

Allegheny plays host for the first time on Wednesday, September 8 as Mount Union (Ohio) College pays a visit to Robertson Field at 4:00 PM.
