Gators Dominate Presidents

The Allegheny women’s soccer team traveled to in-state foe Washington & Jefferson Thursday night for the first-ever soccer game played at W&J’s brand-new Alexandre Stadium and walked away with a 2-0 victory.
The Gators, ranked No. 23 in the preseason NSCAA Division III Top 25 poll, took 10 shots in the first half with seven on goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Junior midfielder Jen Bilec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) broke the scoreless tie in the 74th minute of play off an assist from senior midfielder Ashley Kittridge (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township).
Freshman midfielder Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) sealed the game on a goal with 49 seconds to play. Bilec assisted on the play.
Allegheny junior keeper Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was not tested during 90 minutes of action. Marguerite Egan (Fox Chapel, Pa./Shadyside Academy) made 11 saves for the Presidents, who were out-shot 18-1.
The Gators next travel to John Carroll on Saturday, September 4 for a 1:00 PM contest.
