Gators Set School-Record For Wins
Apr 25, 2004 The Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team stretched the school-record win streak to five games and set a new school-record with their seventh win, a 13-9 North Coast Athletic Conference victory against Kenyon at Robertson Field on Sunday afternoon. Allegheny’s first lacrosse team took the field in 1994 and the previous record for wins was set in 1997 as that team went 6-10. The Gators are 7-4 this season and 3-2 in the NCAC.
Sophomore Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Ashley Lemmon (Allison Park, Pa./Winchester) both had three goals and an assist in the contest while junior Liz Geller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Quaker Valley) and sophomore Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) added two goals each.
Allegheny fell behind early, 2-0, but responded with three goals from in a just over a 3:00 minute span to take a 3-2 lead. Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored the Gators first and Deering (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored the next two.
Kenyon took a brief 4-3 lead, but once again Allegheny had the answer, scoring three times over the last 3:20 of the first half to take a 6-4 at the half. The Gators then took control in the second half and led 13-7 with less than one minute. Kenyon looked to make things interesting, scoring twice in eight seconds during the last minute, but Allegheny won the final draw and ran out the clock.
Senior Beth McLaughlin (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) finished with seven saves. Maggie Rosen had 15 saves for Kenyon while Kaley Bell led all players with four goals. Annie Huntoon added three for Kenyon.
Allegheny, who has clinched a spot in the playoffs, finishes out their regular season with a 1:00 p.m game against the College of Wooster on Tuesday, April 27, at Robertson Field.
