Gators Snap Four-Game Skid
Apr 15, 2004 The Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team defeated Fredonia State, 9-7, snapping a four-game losing streak in a Thursday afternoon game at Robertson Field. Senior Joan Anderson (Holt, Mich./Holt) and sophomore Emily Deering (Hollis, Maine/Bonny Eagle) each had three goals for the Gators who improved to 3-4 with the win.
Fredonia took a 2-1 lead as they sandwiched goals by Erin Schurr and Erynn Anderson around Deering’s first goal of the game. However, the Gators scored four goals over the final 14:07 of the first half to take while allowing just one more to take a 5-3 lead at the half.
Deering scored her third goal 4:40 into the second half to make it a 6-3 margin. Fredonia responded with the next three goals, tying the game on Erynn Anderson’s third goal of the game with 11:15 remaining in the contest.
Joan Anderson put Allegheny back on top with 5:04 left and Michelle Dudevoir (Westpoint, N.Y./O’Neill) scored the gamewinner just 45 seconds later. Fredonia’s Anderson added a goal with 3:30 showing, but Allegheny’s Anderson put it away with her third and final goal with just 22 seconds left.
Senior Beth McLaughlin (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) in goal for Allegheny while Fredonia’s Kelly McCleod had 12 saves in the loss. The Gators outshot Fredonia 30-19 in the game.
The Blue Devils fall to 2-6 with the loss. Allegheny’s next game is slated for Sunday, April 18, as the Gators travel to Lycoming for a 2:00 p.m. game.
