Gators Fall To Denison After Holding Early Lead
Mar 27, 2004 The Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team held a 5-3 halftime lead before eventually falling to the Denison Big Red, 8-6, on Saturday afternoon. The loss was the Gators first this season and drops them to 2-1 on the season.
Senior Joan Anderson (Holt, Mich./Holt) continued her scoring assault with three goals while junior Liz Geller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Quaker Valley) chipped in with two goals for the Gators.
Allegheny quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of unassisted goals from Geller and Anderson just over five minutes into the contest. Denison responded with the next three scores. The Gators answered with three goals - one from Geller and two from Anderson - over the final 9:03 of the first to take a 5-3 lead into the locker room.
The lead was short-lived however, as the Big Red scored the first three goals of the second half and took a 6-5 lead with 19:29 remaining in the game. Sophomore Ashley Rogerson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored for Allegheny to knot the game at six, but the Big Red picked up the last two goals of the game on free position shots to take the win.
Denison improves to 3-2 with the win. Liz Hollick had two goals and three assists to lead the Big Red.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday, March 31, with a 3:30 p.m. game at St. Vincent.
