1990 National Championship Football Team to Enter Athletic Hall of Fame Meadville, Pa. -- Then-Athletics Director Norm Sundstrom called it "the greatest athletics achievement in Allegheny's 175 years." And because of it, the usual selection process for the Allegheny Athletic Hall of Fame took the year off. This year there is but a single inductee into the Hall of Fame, the 1990 National Championship Football Team. This team will join the 1983 golf team as the only NCAA Championship teams in the Hall of Fame. The annual ceremony coincides once again with Homecoming Weekend. The Gator's electrifying 21-14 come-from-behind, overtime victory over Lycoming, on Dec. 8, 1990, was cinched when quarterback Jeff Filkovski hit tight end Kurt Reiser with a 15-yard touchdown pass on the Gator's overtime possession. Then cornerback Tony Bifulco ended the game with an interception on fourth-and-long on Lycoming's OT possession. The nationally-televised contest from Bradenton, Fla., was one of the best games of the year in all of college football. ESPN College Football Producer Brian Williams called it "the most exciting game we've done all year." The annual induction ceremony will be held September 29, at The David V. Wise Sport and Fitness Center on Allegheny's campus. The performance arena will be turned into a banquet hall for this special event. The program includes the enshrinement of each player and coach from the team into the Hall of Fame, a viewing of the 1990 highlight tape, an audio presentation of the season by the voice-of-the-Gators Ray Horner and a video message from former head coach, Ken O'Keefe. The College hopes you will be able to attend on this special night. Tickets to the induction dinner can be purchased by calling Mandy Prusia at (814) 332-3351 or by writing to: Hall of Fame Induction, P.O. Box AC, 520 North Main St., Meadville, PA 16335.
