Murtagh Has Career Night In Gator Win

Sophomore guard Caitlin Murtagh (Bethel Park, Pa./Seton LaSalle) scored a career-high 26 points and tied her career-high with eight rebounds as she led the Allegheny College women’s basketball team to an 81-56 win over Earlham College in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Murtagh, who’s previous high was 17, went 10-of-13 from the field and was 6-of-7 from the free throw line in her record performance. Of her eight rebounds, six were offensive boards. The sophomore also had three steals in the game.
Allegheny, now 4-8 and 2-1 in the conference, took control of the contest midway through the first half, going on a 14-4 run that broke open an 11-11 tie and gave the Gators a 25-15 advantage with 6:45 left in the half.
The Gators dominated the glass in the win, outrebounding Earlham 46-37 and had 17 second-chance points to the Quakers five. In addition, Earlham turned the ball over 24 times, resulting in 22 points for Allegheny.
Senior guard Jessica Kankoski (Glenshaw, Pa./Fox Chapel) was the only other Allegheny player in double-digits as she had 14 points. Kankoski added eight rebounds in the win.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday, January 7, as they travel to Denison for a 6:00 p.m. NCAC game.
Earlham fell to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference with the loss.
