Gators Drop Third In A Row

The Allegheny women’s basketball team dropped their third straight game losing at Pitt-Greensburg, 79-74. The Lady Bobcats shot 43.9 percent from the field and converted six of 13 three-point attempts. The Gators, meanwhile, made just eight of 27 attempted threes and shot just 37.5 percent from the field for the game.
The Gators took the early lead, going up 4-0 in the first two minutes of the game. The Lady Bobcats tied the score 4-4 with 17:11 left. The lead would change nine times over the course of the first half, as the Lady Bobcats went up by as many as six only to see the Gators crawl back to within three at half-time, 41-38.
Allegheny took the lead, 50-48, 36 seconds into the second half on a lay-up by Valery Medwid (Coraopolis, Pa/Montour), only to lose it 17 seconds later. The two teams exchanged the lead several times over the first ten minutes of the second half, tying the score at 54 with 10:26 left to play. Pitt Greensburg made their move at this point, outscoring the Gators 17 to 4 over the next five minutes and stretching their lead to 13. Allegheny recovered, closing the gap to four on a bucket by junior Jessica Kankoski (Glenshaw, Pa./Fox Chapel) with :21 seconds left. Amy Bandzuch made one of two free throws to put the Lady Bobcats up by five with 13 seconds left and secure the lead.
Kankoski led the Gators in scoring with 18 points on 6-for-15 shooting while junior Meredith McDonough (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) added 12 points and 14 boards for her second double-double of the season. Junior Jamie Parone (Aliquippa, Pa/Quigley Catholic) chipped in with 13 points. For the Lady Bobcats, Sral Annie led the scoring attack, putting up a game high 25 points on 9-of-20 shooting. Hines Tish chipped in with a double-double, netting 15 points and grabbing 10 boards.
The Gators next contest will be Wednesday, December 3 at the Wise Center in the first NCAC contest of the year against Wooster College. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
