Allegheny falls in title game
Nov 22, 2003 Despite a 14-point, 10-rebound effort from junior forward Meredith McDonough (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic), the Allegheny women's basketball team dropped a 70-55 decision to Grove City (2-0) in the championship game of the National City Tip-Off Tournament Saturday at the David V. Wise Center.
Grove City broke the game open with a 22-4 run in the second half as four Lady Wolverines scored in double figures. Tournament MVP Sandy O'Keefe led all scorers with a game-high 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
Senior Jessica Kankoski (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) led Allegheny (1-1) with 15 points. The Gators shot just 9-for-32 (28 percent) in the second half.
McDonough and Valery Medwid (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) earned All-Tournament honors for Allegheny. Junior guard Jocelyn Kempema (Grove City), Ursinus' Allison Walker and Pitt-Bradford's Dani Hamilton also earned All-Tournament recognition.
Ursinus downed Pitt-Bradford, 65-58, in the consolation game.
