Allegheny and Grove City to Meet In National City Tipoff Tourney Final

Allegheny College rolled to a 90-68 win over Pitt-Bradford and Grove City eased by Ursinus College to earn spots in the championship game of the National City Tipoff Tournament hosted by Allegheny College. The championship game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow at the David V. Wise Center with the consolation game slated for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.

Allegheny shot 43.9 percent in the game and forced the Lady Panthers to commit 26 turnovers to take a 90-68 win in the nightcap on day one of the event. Three Gators scored in double-digits led by sophomore Valery Medwid (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) who had 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 3-for-3 from three-point range. Sophomore Caitlin Murtagh (Bethel Park, Pa./Seton LaSalle) added 12 points and junior forward Meredith McDonough (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) chipped in with 10 points.

Megan Richards led all scorers with 16 points for Pitt-Bradford while teammate Samantha Groller had a game-high 13 rebounds, including seven offensive boards.

In game one, Grove City jumped out to a 39-11 first half lead and never looked back as they held Ursinus to 22.4 percent shooting in the game. Tammy Hess led the Wolverines with 16 points (7-13) and Sandy O’Keefe chipped in with 14 boards. Mary Kate Daley topped the Bears with 10 points while Molly Buntli grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
