Boxscore

Both the Allegheny College and Ohio Wesleyan University women’s soccer teams came into Saturday afternoon’s North Coast Athletic Conference match-up with record streaks on the line, but it was the Gators who managed to extend theirs with a 3-1 win. Allegheny (14-1-1, 7-0-0 NCAC) has now 13-straight games and are unbeaten in their last 14 games (13-0-1), both of which are school records. The 3-1 win snapped Ohio Wesleyan’s NCAA Division III record of 60 straight victories and was the two-time defending national champs first NCAC loss since the Gators beat them 3-2 in the 2000 season.

The Bishops came into Saturday’s game with the number-one ranking in the nation and a 15-0-0 record and tied with Allegheny for first in the NCAC with a 6-0-0 conference mark. OWU also sported the best defense in the conference, having allowed just one goal in NCAC play and only three overall.

Junior Vicki Hritz (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) quickly changed that stat, scoring on a corner kick just 1:26 into the game to give Allegheny a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Jen Bilec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Pleasant) served the ball off the corner to get the assist.

Another corner kick, this one 3:35 into the second half, doubled the Gator lead. Bilec again had the assist on the service with senior Teresa Lettrich (Allison Park, Pa./Shady Side Academy) converting for the goal.

Ohio Wesleyan cut into the lead at the 60:49 mark as Sarah Wall, the NCAC’s leading scorer, notched her 19th goals of the season on a rebound. The goal was just the second given up this season by senior goalie Joan Anderson (Holt, Mich./Holt).

Junior Jill Gray (North East, Pa./North East) put the game away with 17:32 remaining in the contest, scoring on an assist from senior Jill Malone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area).

Allegheny sits alone atop the NCAC standing with only one game left in conference. Play. The Gators host Wooster on Saturday, November 1, at 1:30 p.m.
