Gators Continue Roll, Defeat Wittenberg 1-0

Oct 18, 2003

The Allegheny College women’s soccer team continues to roll through the North Coast Athletic Conference, winning their 11th-straight contest and improved to 5-0 in the conference with a 1-0 win over Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon. Since going 1-1-1 to open the season, the Gators have rolled off 11 consecutive victories, including a pair of overtime wins, to improve their record to 12-1-1.

Senior forward Jill Malone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) made the difference for the second game in a row, scoring on an assist from classmate Lauren Moser (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) in the second half.

Wittenberg (7-7-1, 2-2 NCAC) netminder Jenny Miller made 10 saves to keep this one close. Senior Joan Anderson (Holt, Mich./Holt) stopped the best Tiger chance with 10 seconds remaining in the game to insure the Gator victory. Allegheny outshot the host Tigers 16-6 in the contest.

Allegheny, who stands atop the NCAC standings with two-time defending national champions Ohio Wesleyan, will take on Hiram at Robertson Field at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22.
