Baldwin-Wallace Upends Gators, 2-1

Baldwin-Wallace ended #21 Allegheny College’s undefeated season and seven-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 upset victory at Robertson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets (8-1-0) came into the game ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region according the latest NSCAA/adidas® Coaches Poll while the Gators (6-1-1) were third in the Great Lakes and #21 in the national poll.

Junior Adam McMahan (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) scored the gamewinner for Baldwin-Wallace at the 63:35 mark of the contest. Sophomore Dave Mustar (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) fed a through ball to McMahan into the 18-yard box. McMahan took one touch and ripped a ball off the far post and into the net for the goal.

Mustar scored the Yellow Jackets first goal at 38:56 when he jumped on a loose ball inside the goal box and put into an empty net to tie the game 1-1.

Allegheny, who outshot the visitors 11-4 –including 7-1 in the first half – got on the board first at 27:47 on freshman Duffy Dunnigan’s (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville) first career goal. Classmate Daniel Carik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) played a cross into the box where Dunnigan hit a right-footed shot into the net.

Sophomore goalie Nate Christian (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) made five saves for Baldwin-Wallace to earn the win. It was only the second game this season where Allegheny was held to less than two goals.

Allegheny hosts Ohio Wesleyan, who is ranked 13th in the nation, on Saturday, September 27, at 1:00 p.m. in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.
