Gators Dominate W&J in 6-1 Win

Junior Ashley Kittridge (McMurray, Pa./Peter’s Township) scored two goals to lead Allegheny College to an easy 6-1 win over Washington & Jefferson in women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The win was the Gators fourth straight and improved their record to 5-1-1 overall while W&J fell to 3-4 on the year.
Allegheny dominated this game from the beginning, outshooting the Presidents 16-1 and taking a 4-0 advantage in the first half.
Senior Jill Malone (Moon, Pa./Moon Area) opened the scoring with her first goal of the season on a header from junior Leah Karpa (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) at the 20:52 mark. Senior Sharon Greene (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) made it 2-0 when her bullet shot from 25 yards out found the back of the net. Just over five minutes later, Kittridge notched her first of the contest on a low shot from the top of the goal box at 38:58. Kittridge tallied her second of the game with 27 seconds left in the half when her hard shot from eight-yards away deflected off a defender and into the net.
The Gator barrage continued in the second half when senior Teresa Lettrich (Allison Park, Pa./Shady Side Academy) scored on an assist from Greene to make it 5-0 at 52:03. Senior Jill Gray (North East, Pa./North East) finished off the Allegheny scoring with her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Karpa at 60:20 to stretch the lead to 6-0.
W&J got their goal with just 11 seconds left in the contest when Rachel Moses collected a lose ball in the box and found an empty Gator net.
Allegheny held a 29-4 advantage in shots and did not give up a corner kick while taking 10 of their own.
The Gators open their conference season on Tuesday, September 23, when they travel to Kenyon College for a 4:30 p.m. game.
