Allegheny Stretches Win Streak to Three With 2-1 Win Over Grove City

Allegheny dominated Grove City everywhere on the stat sheet on their way to a 2-1 win over the visiting Wolverines in women’s soccer action at Robertson Field on Thursday afternoon. The win is the third straight for the Gators, who are 3-0-1 over their last four games.
Allegheny outshot Grove City 19-4 and held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Junior Ashley Kittridge (McMurray, Pa./Peter’s Township) gave Allegheny a 1-0 lead at the 25:16 mark. Kittridge rifled a shot low to the back of the net from the top of the 18-yard box after a cross deflected off a defender to the midfielder.
Senior Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond) knotted the game at 1-1 just over six minutes into the second half as she converted a breakaway opportunity, beating senior goalie Joan Anderson (Holt, Mich./Holt). The goal was the first allowed this season by Anderson.
Junior Jill Gray (North East, Pa./North East) regained the lead for Allegheny as she converted on an assist from senior Jill Malone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) at the 72:57 mark.
Sophomore Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) had two saves in the first 45 minutes while Anderson played the second half.
The Gators play host to Presidents’ Athletic Conference-rival Washington & Jefferson at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20.
