The Allegheny College men’s soccer team watched a 3-0 lead shrink to a 3-2, but rebounded with a goal to take a 4-2 lead over previously unbeaten Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday afternoon. Marc Sciulli (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) had a goal and an assist in the game to lead the Gators.
Allegheny had a comfortable 3-0 lead with 25 minutes left in the second half when the Bobcats scored off a header by Steve Green. The lead shrunk to 3-2 just six minutes later when Adam Zelenick scored on a header off of a corner kick.
However, the Gators regained the momentum when Eric Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) took a feed from Sciulli and buried it into the UPG net.
Sciulli opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as his header from Eric Bland’s (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) found the back of the net. Jason Figura (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) extened the lead with a header off of a long throw-in from Peter Beckman (Bradfordwoods, Pa./South Lakes).
Mark Dobish (New Wilmington, Pa./New Wilmington) scored the Gators third goal unassisted as he stole the ball from a Bobcat defender before beating the goaltender for an easy score.
The Gators outshot host Pitt-Greensburg 18-10 in the contest. Brian Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth Senior) made five saves in net to pick up the win.
