Allegheny, Carnegie Mellon Play to 1-1 Draw
Sep 3, 2003 Boxscore
110 minutes ran by without deciding a winner between Allegheny College and Carnegie Mellon in women’s soccer action on Wednesday night. The Gators and Tartans each scored first half goals, but played the remainder of regulation time and extra time without finding the net, tying 1-1.
Sophomore Jen Bilec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) gave Allegheny a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, her first goal of the season, as she scored on an assist from fellow Mt. Lebanon grad senior Sharon Greene (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon).
The lead was short lived, however, as the host Tartans quickly tied the game 12 minutes later.
Carnegie Mellon outshot the Gators, 9-7, with Allegheny goalies Beth Van Parys (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Joan Anderson (Holt, Mich./Holt) combining for eight saves. Van Parys stopped four shots, allowing one goal in the first half, while Anderson stopped four shots in the second stanza.
Allegheny will be away from action until next Wednesday, September 10, when they travel to Mount Union for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off against the Purple Raiders.
